7 Ways To Annoy Chefs

Chefs are usually artistic people who are passionate about their jobs, but sometimes people do things that can really annoy Chefs..

Here are 7 ways to annoy Chefs.

1. Customers who request stupid demands on their order

Sometimes customers will make bizarre requests on their order, and sometimes it can be difficult to take them seriously! For example, we once witnessed an order of a cheeseburger, but the customer wanted it without the burger or the cheese.. so just salad in a bun. Why would they want that?

2. Threatening to leave a bad review on ‘TripAdvisor’

Customers will often threaten to leave restaurants a negative review on ‘TripAdvisor’- more times than often due to silly reasons. Why can’t people just approach the Manager of the restaurant and solve the issue there and then? Rather than being mean on the internet. Which could put people off dining there in the future.

3. Children running around the restaurant

Parents will regularly bring their hyper children into restaurants to dine at, and hyper children don’t like to sit still at a table and will often run wild in the restaurant- sometimes even entering the kitchen! Some customers need to learn how to keep their children safe, as there are a lot of harmful items laying around kitchens, including hot liquids and sharp objects. Or maybe just get a babysitter next time?

4. Asking the Chef about calories in a dish

Chefs are paid to cook tasty dishes for customers, and not know about how many calories are in a dish. So it can be frustrating when people demand to know how many calories are in a chicken salad. Google is a beautiful thing, and will be able to provide them with answers to all their questions.

5. Asking for their steak to be cooked well-done.

I know this doesn’t annoy ALL Chefs, but it’s a proven fact that the more you cook a quality cut of meat, the more the tasty fat & juices get evaporated away. All you’re left with with a well-done steak is something that will often look like a piece of coal on a plate

6. Customers who walk in 5 minutes before the end of service

You know the feeling- it’s 5 minutes before the end of service, you’re in the midst of cleaning the kitchen with your trusty KP by your side, thinking about the nice nap you’re going to have when you eventually finish your long and tiring shift… then you get an order come through, of 5 well-done steaks.. Do people not realise Chefs also have feelings?

7. Booking a table & not showing

One of the most annoying things which can cost businesses thousands of pounds every year is when people book tables at a restaurant and then don’t even show up. It’s even more annoying when this happens on busy days of the year, such as Valentine’s Day. When many people were turned away due to the restaurant being fully booked. Why can’t people learn to call the restaurant to cancel their reservation?
